The resolution of the chairman of the Association with the agreement
of the preparatory committee about the VII. International Interpretative Brasswind Instruments Competition Brno

Part one

History of the competiton of brass instruments

• The multisectional competition for young musicians was established in 1973 from the iniciative of prominent teachers, interprets and producers of music instruments (Amati Kraslice). The competition took place in Kraslice and became a pre-round for the international music competition Prague Spring.

• Because of the change of the regime and political situation in the country the competition stopped existing after 1990. But teachers from Czech and Slovak Republic have decided that it`s necessary that the competition continues so in 1995 the society called Hornforum arranged the competiton for French horn.

• Since 1997 the Association of the Interpretative Brasswind Instruments Competition Brno has been the organizer of the multisectional competition (French horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba). The competitors are students from elementary schools, intermediate schools and universities from Czech and Slovak Republic as well as for professional players.

• Turning point is the sixth year (2007) when the competition is opened also for foreign students.

Part two

Mission of the competition

• The object of the competition is to search young talents studying at music elementary schools, intermediate schools an universities and present the best to specialists and audience on the final concerts which are always recorded by the Czech Broadcast.

• Through new obligatory compositions, choice of elective compositions, dramaturgy of the concerts and radio programs the competition promotes Czech music on the worldwide basis.

• For the maintainance of the good reputation, which the Czech brass school has in the world, are gatherings like the International Interpretative Brasswind Instrumens Competition needful.

Part three

General regulations

• The competition is annunciated every two years by the Association of the Interpretative Brasswind Instruments Competition Brno (hereinafter “officials”).

• The secretariat is entrusted with the organisation of the competition (organizer).

• The supreme body is the preparatory committee elected at the plenary meeting.

• The Association has one chairman and two vice-chairmen with five years term of office.

• The preparatory committee has also the function of economical and dramaturgical council.

• The officials annunciate the competition always before the end of the school year in the noncompetitive year including the exact date and the list of obligatory and elective compositions for all sections.

Part four

Regulations of the competition

• The competition takes its course every two years in these sections:
french horn
trumpet
trombon
tuba

• The competition is divided into three categories:
Category I (1st to 4th year of high schools – Conservatories etc.)
Category II (1st to 3rd year of Academies of Music – Bachelor degree)
Category III (4th and higher years of Academies of Music – Master degree etc. + professional players)

• All categories have two rounds and in each round there is an obligatory composition. Time limit for each round is replenished with an elective composition.

• The length of the performance is for the Category I — 10 minutes in each round minimum, Category II — 15 minutes in each round minimum and Category III — 20 minutes in each round minimum.

• The competitors have to play one competition in each round by heart.

• An international jury, which is named by the preparatory committee, evaluates the performances.

• Each jury votes its head.

• The juries in sections French horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba have generally 5-9 members. Numbers are decided by the preparatory committee.

• The highest and the lowest mark is crossed out.

• Teachers do not evaluate their students.

• Generally 50 % of competitors pass to the second round in accordance to the rank in each category.

• 25 points is the maximum one can get.

• The points from both first and second rounds sum up for the final result.

• After each round is finished, the classification will be made public and in case there is a big difference the head of the jury should provoke a discussion about it, the jurymen have to justify or disprove the marks and, if necessary, ask the chairman of the Association for the final resolution.

• These rules are binding for all juries.

• Incidental differences of opinion solves the elected chairman of the Association prof. Jindřich
Petráš.

• The international jury gives in each category and each section the 1st, the 2nd and the 3rd prize, in case of need also a honorable mention. The division of prizes between two people is permissible.

• Those who win the first and the second prize will bear the title “The laureate of the International Interpretative Brasswind Instruments Competition Brno”.

• The award for all laureates for their successful placing is that they can have a record made by the Czech Broadcast and they can participate on public concerts for laureates of the International Interpretative Brasswind Instruments Competition Brno. These concerts are not paid, they are just the defence of the performances of the winners.

Part five

Final regulations


• Alongside with the VII. International Interpretative Brasswind Instruments Competition 2009 there are very interesting selling exhibitions of musical instruments.

• The officials pay the travel costs, accomodation and bording to all jury members.

• Also the costs connected with the concert of laureates, propagation, information and study materials which help to popularise the competition are paid by the officials.

• The chairman, the vice-chairmen an other responsible persons have to promote the International Interpretative Brasswind Instruments Competition through the whole year.

 

This status comes into force on 1st June 2008.

Publishing this new status means cancellation of the one from 1st January 1997.
